"A cooler, longer season such as we had in 2011 is our preference for growing Sauvignon Blanc. Much of the ripening for this varietal comes through dehydration, so the greater the true ripening in a season, the more roundness we see in the finished wine. The 2011 sailed through the growing season with no drama and provided the longest pick window we have ever seen for Sauvignon Blanc. The attack of this wine is crisper than previous vintages and the wine opens with a high toned citrus peel/zest and lemongrass nose. The fruits on the palate are more citrus in tone than tropical and are complemented by white flowers and mint. By dialing back the new oak back, and blocking malolactic fermentation we provide a rounded lift to the finish that gives the wine a completeness that is missing in many other Sauvignon Blancs. This wine demonstrates the progress we are making in balancing the competing influences of extended barrel aging and the inherent sharpness of residual malic acid. In the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc both play their, part but neither overshadows the other."
