ones Family Vineyards was established in 1995 as a family run
partnership with the singular focus to produce the finest cabernet
from our proprietary vineyards.
Our hillside vineyards are located between St. Helena and Calistoga in the Northern Napa Valley. At an elevation of 600 – 800 feet above sea level facing almost due south, the rocky soil provides excellent drainage forcing the vine roots to extend deep into the soil for both moisture and nutrients.

The stressing of vines and intense sun exposure provides our grapes with earlier ripeness than those found on the valley floor.
M
aking wine was not always founder Rick Jones’ intention. Seven acres of Clone 8 Cabernet Sauvignon were planted between 1991 and 1993 on 110R rootstock. During the

1994 and 1995 vintages the grapes from these vines were sold to Stags Leap Winery for inclusion in their Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 1996 we have utilized the grapes exclusively for Jones Family Vineyards Cabernet.

In 1998 we expanded from our original seven acre vineyard to include a three acre hillside vineyard of cabernet vines and small plantings of cabernet franc and petit verdot. The fruit from these three acres are used for our newest project, The Sisters.

The combination of our unique hillside location, elevation and sun exposure creates wonderful fruit that our vineyard management team and winemaker craft into our special wines.

Vineyard Manager and Winemaker

We are fortunate to work with two of the most talented individuals in the wine business.

David Abreu has been managing our vineyards since 1995. His reputation grows with each harvest from the vineyards he manages (including Abreu’s own Madrona Ranch and Araujo’s Eisele Vineyard.) Robert Parker has included David in his list of the most influential wine personalities of the last 20 years. David’s focus on quality is without equal in the Napa Valley. Judicious crop management, rigorous pruning, and an uncompromising focus on producing the finest fruit from our location yields less than two tons per acre each harvest. The resulting intensity of flavors in the grapes is reflected in the final wine.

Heidi Peterson Barrett crafts some of the most outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons made in the Napa Valley (including her own La Sirena label, Screaming Eagle, and Showket.). In 1998 Robert Parker listed her as only one of two US based wine heroines and dubbed her the “first lady of wine.” As the winemaker for Jones Family Vineyards since our inception she has had complete control over the transformation of our grapes into both our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and The Sisters.
