Notes -
"The 1997
vintage was an outstanding one producing fully ripe,
deeply colored and concentrated wines. This cabernet
shows off full dark ruby color and aromas of ripe berry,
black current and cassis coming from fully ripe fruit.
Hints of black olive add to the sweet french oak accents.
In the mouth, the fruit is almost explosive in its intensity
and purity. This is a big, elegantly styled wine with
richness and balance at the same time. Can be enjoyed
upon release or held for further aging."

"This wine is the product of a small micro-vinification
from a 5-acre vineyard on the upper eastern hillsides
of the Napa Valley. David Abreu, the well-known viticulturist,
oversees the vineyard , and acclaimed consultant, Heidi
Barrett makes the wine. The impressive debut release
the 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon (rated 90+) has been followed
by two promising efforts. The sensational 1997 Cabernet
Sauvignon (800 cases produced) is the finest effort
yet from the Jones Family. The color is saturated blue/purple.
The nose offers up classic mineral, blueberry, creme
de cassis, and the subtle toasty oak notes. Full bodied,
with stunning purity, a multi-layered full bodied palate
impression, and an explosive finish, this wine requires
2-3 years of cellaring; it will age nicely for 20-25
years. The Jones Family is a new star to add to the
growing family of impressive Cabernet producers."

"Enormous aromatics of vanilla and chocolate, dark
berries and spice cake. An open palate with sweet-tart
fruit and vanilla notes. The rich, round feel, the depth
of fruit, and the velvety tannins nearly veil the solid
structure. Finishes dry and long, with coffee and chocolate
flavors. A newcomer with budding cult credentials. Hold
three to five years if you can keep your hands off it."

"Dark, rich and concentrated, with layers of currant,
mineral, cedar, tobacco and herb notes, finishing with
complex flavors and firm tannins. Best from 2002 through
2010."

"Good medium ruby. Briary blackberry, black cherry,
cinnamon, mace and a hint of menthol on the nose. Thick,
rich and layered, with superripe black fruit and dark
chocolate flavors and a primary, grapey aspect. Chewy
and dense yet rather approachable for this wine. Finishes
with substantial but ripe tannins." |
