GENERATIONS to come

At the heart of Jones Family Vineyards is a family. We work together as owners and operators sharing a vision of longevity, sustainability and prosperity for the brand, the land it inhabits and the community it supports.

What began as a project between a father and his daughters evolved into a complete family affair. Even the grandchildren--Maddie, Lindsey, Georgia and Graham--play a role in the business, from assisting with inventory to checking on the vines while they play in the vineyard to ensuring there is branded “swag” for our family, friends and loyal customers.

“FOR US, THIS ADVENTURE IS ALL ABOUT FAMILY. WE ARE CREATING A LEGACY FOR BOTH THE PEOPLE AND THE LAND, THAT WILL LAST FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.”

We are proud that Jones Family Vineyards remains entirely managed by family members throughout the life cycle of the wine--from vine to bottle to tasting and sharing. Our winemaking and viticulture are managed by a notable ‘extended family,’ including Thomas Rivers Brown and Jim Barbour.

The Jones family

Stephanie Jones Bailey, Rick Jones, Heather Jones Melvin

Rick Jones is at the helm of Jones Family Vineyards. He discovered and purchased our Calistoga Estate in 1993 after searching for an ideal piece of land to commence the next chapter of his life following a successful career as a grocery retail executive in San Francisco. He was drawn to the property not for the acres already planted to vine, but by the enchanting views overlooking the valley floor and the encompassing 100 acres of virgin forest that surrounds.

Although the parcel came with vineyards, Rick had no intention of making wine from the property. He sold the grapes for the first few years until he tasted the wine made from our fruit and realized it was world-class and worthy of its own Estate brand.

Together with his daughters Heather and Stephanie, Rick established Jones Family Vineyards in 1996 embarking on a 20-year journey that currently spans three generations and holds the potential for a longer future legacy.

Ensuring the well being of the Napa Valley and all its residents is a strong value of the Jones Family as well. Rick and his wife Elaine support and serve on the boards of a number of nonprofit organizations that ensure access to education, health and well being for all Napa Valley community members.

Extended family

Thomas Rivers Brown
winemaker

Thomas Rivers Brown is one of the most exciting young talents in Napa Valley. Born in Sumter, South Carolina, Thomas developed an interest in wine while at the University of Virginia. Later he expanded his knowledge of wines from all the world's great regions while working at All Seasons Wine Shop in Calistoga. Beginning at Turley Estate in the late 1990s, and continuing today at Schrader, Maybach Cellars and others, he crafts beautiful wines that speak of the land and conditions that created them. When asked how he defines great wine, Thomas responds, "I can't really define it, but I know it when I taste it." 2007 was Thomas's first vintage with Jones Family Vineyards. Each year he continues to improve the quality of our wines by working closely with the vineyard team and using small lot fermentation and blending.

Jim Barbour
Vineyard Manager

Jim Barbour was raised on his family’s ranch in Rutherford where he learned the life of farming, developed a passion for land, and gained the understanding that hard work breeds success. After graduating from the University of California-Davis, Jim returned to Napa Valley to begin a career that would lead him to become one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after viticulturists.  For nearly 40 years, he has been dedicated to his craft, producing premium wine grapes using traditional and contemporary hand-farming methods. He and the team at Barbour Vineyards farm Jones Family Vineyards in an exacting manner and with the goal to maintain long-term sustainability.
